Award-winning science communicator & illustrator based in California.
I enjoy making science illustrations and stories as vibrant as the Mojave landscapes that inspire and surround me. As a bioinformatics engineer with a PhD in Genomics from UW Genome Sciences, I bring nearly a decade of experience in cutting-edge research, supported by my recognition as an HHMI Gilliam Scholar and NSF Graduate Research Fellow. Alongside this technical work, I built a parallel career in science communication and illustration—developing a broad portfolio that spans logos, portraits, conference posters, and community events.
I’ve been invited to speak and lead workshops at 20+ institutions across the U.S.—including universities, biotech companies, and nonprofits—on writing, mentorship, and the intersections of art and STEM. My work is deeply rooted in cultivating community: uplifting minoritized researchers in genomics, mentoring marginalized scholars, and building inclusive spaces in higher education. As a queer and trans person of color, I am driven to foster representation and belonging through both science and art.
Beyond my research career, I am an independent creative artist seeking representation to amplify science, nature, cultural, and LGBTQIA2S+ stories in children’s literature.
